ARMS EXPORT

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has signed a contract to procure “an enhanced squadron” of IOMAX Archangel Border Patrol Aircraft (BPA). The contract calls for the turboprop aircraft to be built to UAE-specifications to replace the IOMAX AT-802 Block 2 BPAs currently in service. The UAE Air Force & Air Defense (UAE AF & AD) originally received 24 Block 1 and Block 2 BPAs, of which six Block 1 aircraft have since been donated to Jordan. It is understood that this fleet will now be replaced by 24 Archangel aircraft. (defense-arab.com, Oct. 14, 2015)

Terma has been selected by IOMAX USA to provide the aircraft self-protection suite for their second generation Archangel aircraft. The contract provides design, development, and sustainment for systems to support aircrafts. Delivery and flight testing will commence in order to meet schedule for delivery of the first aircraft to the end customer in United Arab Emirates. (terma.com, Jun. 15, 2015)

MAINTENANCE

As the UAE escalated its operations in Yemen from late 2015 and early 2016, it started to establish a military base in Assab in Eritrea, focusing missions on southern Yemen. IOMAX was awarded a contract to supply Archangel border patrol aircraft for the UAE Air Force & Air Defence (AF & AD) in September 2014. L-3 WESCAM received a subcontract from IOMAX in February 2015 to provide 28 MX™-15D EO / infrared (IR) turrets for integration on the UAE’s Archangel aircraft. (airforce-technology.com)
