POSITION TOWARDS THE CONFLICT
Despite documented attacks on civilian homes, markets, hospitals and schools – conducted by the Saudi/UAE-led military coalition – transnational companies based in Europe continue to supply Saudi Arabia and the UAE with weapons, ammunition and logistical support. European government officials authorized the exports by granting licenses.
Italy is continuing to provide relief and development support to Yemeni people, and to back all international efforts aimed at making peace as ambitioned by Yemeni people; apart from that the country is still maintaining active economic relations with the countries of the Saudi-led coalition. In the last year, Italian dock workers refused to load/unload containers of cargo ship suspected of carrying arms to be used in the war in Yemen. The first of this kind of protest by anti-war activists happened in the port of Genoa in May 2019, and it has made its way to various European ports.
